Earl Johnson Memorial Park

Earl Johnson Memorial Park is located in Jacksonville, Florida, situated between Emerson Street and University Boulevard on the Southside. The park was established in 1990 on land that was donated to the city in 1976 and previously used as the Stetson Road Landfill. It is named after Earl M. Johnson (1928-1968), who was the first African-American member of the Jacksonville Bar Association and worked tirelessly for civil rights throughout Florida.

The park's history is intertwined with the area's post-Civil War settlement, when much of the surrounding land was occupied by African-American families. The community that developed there became known as Pine Forest, or alternatively, Larsen. Today, Earl Johnson Memorial Park serves as a testament to the area's rich history and the contributions of its namesake to civil rights and local governance.

Spanning a considerable area, the park features two fishing lakes and eight youth soccer fields, which are frequently utilized by the Jacksonville Youth Soccer Club. This organization also assists the city in maintaining the park grounds. The park's layout and facilities make it a popular destination for both recreational fishing and youth sports activities.
