About Lake Eola Park in Orlando
Lake Eola Park is a public park located in the heart of Downtown Orlando, Florida. The park spans approximately 23 acres and features Lake Eola as its centerpiece. Lake Eola is actually a sinkhole, with a depth of about 23 feet at its deepest point, and is fed by an underground aquifer.
The park's most iconic feature is the Linton E. Allen Memorial Fountain, installed in 1957 and refurbished in 2011. This fountain, which sits in the middle of the lake, is illuminated at night and serves as a symbol of Orlando. A 0.9-mile paved sidewalk circles the lake, providing a popular route for walkers, joggers, and cyclists.
Lake Eola Park is home to various species of swans, including Trumpeter Swans, Black Neck Swans, Whooper Swans, Royal Mute Swans, and Australian Black Swans. The park holds an annual swan round-up to ensure the health of these birds, during which they receive check-ups and vaccinations.
The park serves as a cultural and recreational hub for Orlando residents and visitors. It hosts numerous events throughout the year, including a weekly farmers market on Sundays, outdoor movie screenings, concerts, and holiday celebrations. The Walt Disney Amphitheater, located on the western side of the park, is a venue for many of these events.
Lake Eola Park has undergone several expansions and improvements since its establishment as a public park in 1888. In 2013, the park was expanded to include additional lawn space, improved lighting, and widened sidewalks. The Eola House, which serves as a welcome center and office space for the park, was also opened that year.
