About Brownwood Park in Atlanta
Brownwood Park is a 12.33-acre community park located in the East Atlanta neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. The park has recently undergone exciting changes, with new features added to enhance its appeal to local residents and visitors.
In the summer of 2024, a new playground opened in Brownwood Park, providing children with updated equipment for play and recreation. The playground includes wood and net climbing structures, slides, and swings. The ground is covered with wood chips, and the area is partially shaded by nearby trees.
The park offers various sporting facilities, including three tennis courts that now showcase beautiful artwork. There are also two half basketball courts and a volleyball court, although as of July 2024, the volleyball court did not have a net.
For those who enjoy walking or running, Brownwood Park features a 0.4-mile wooded trail. The park also includes green spaces with trees, providing areas for relaxation and picnicking.
Brownwood Park is home to the Brownwood Recreation Center, which serves as the headquarters for the East Atlanta Kids Club. This organization offers after-school mentoring and tutoring programs for local children.
Community engagement is a significant aspect of Brownwood Park. The park includes a community garden, allowing residents to grow their own produce and foster a sense of shared responsibility for the green space.
In July 2023, the East Atlanta community came together to break ground on future improvements to the park. These updates, expected to be completed in early 2024, were supported by notable Atlanta natives, including actress Storm Reid and tennis player Coco Gauff.
