Historic Fourth Ward Park

Historic Fourth Ward Park is a 17-acre urban green space located in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. The park was developed as part of the Atlanta BeltLine project and officially opened in 2011. It serves as both a recreational area for the community and an innovative solution to the city's stormwater management challenges.

The centerpiece of the park is a 2-acre lake that functions as a stormwater detention basin. This lake can hold up to 5 million gallons of water, helping to alleviate flooding issues in the surrounding area. The lake is surrounded by a 0.25-mile walking trail, providing visitors with a scenic route for exercise and leisure.

The park's design incorporates sustainable features, including energy-efficient LED lighting and an underground cistern that collects water for irrigation. Native plants and trees have been used in landscaping to support local ecosystems and reduce maintenance needs.

In addition to its environmental functions, Historic Fourth Ward Park offers various recreational amenities. The park includes an amphitheater that can seat up to 500 people, used for community events, concerts, and performances. For families, there is a playground and a splash pad that operates seasonally from May to October.

The park has played a significant role in the revitalization of the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. Since its opening, it has contributed to increased property values in the area and has catalyzed further development and investment in the surrounding blocks.
