About Maddox Park in Atlanta

Maddox Park is a 51.5-acre community park located in the west side of Atlanta, Georgia, in the Bankhead neighborhood. Situated across Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway from the Bankhead MARTA station, the park is approximately 1.5 miles west of Georgia Tech.

Originally opened to the public in 1931, Maddox Park is named in honor of Robert Maddox, Atlanta's 41st mayor. The park features a variety of recreational facilities and green spaces, making it a popular destination for local residents and visitors alike.

One of Atlanta's oldest parks, Maddox Park offers a mix of natural beauty and recreational amenities. The park is characterized by large trees and grassy areas, providing ample space for relaxation and outdoor activities. An existing rail line runs through the park, which is part of the proposed route for the Atlanta BeltLine project.

Maddox Park is slated for expansion and improvement as part of ongoing urban development initiatives. Plans include connecting the park to the BeltLine and integrating it into a series of parks encircling the city, potentially enhancing its role as a community gathering space and recreational hub.
