Springfield Village Park

Springfield Village Park is a 2.5-acre urban park located in downtown Augusta, Georgia. The park sits adjacent to Springfield Baptist Church, which is recognized as the oldest independently established African American church in the United States.

The park was created to commemorate the legacy of Springfield Baptist Church and the surrounding African American community. It features several notable elements that pay tribute to this history. A 45-foot tall stainless steel sculpture called the "Tower of Aspiration," created by renowned artist Richard Hunt, serves as the park's centerpiece. This abstract work represents the aspirations and achievements of Augusta's African American community.

Another key feature is a bronze fountain sculpture titled "And They Went Down Both Into the Water," which symbolizes the baptisms that took place in the nearby Savannah River. The park also includes informational plaques that provide a timeline of significant events in Springfield Village's history and Augusta's African American heritage.
