About Cecil D. Andrus Park in Boise
Cecil D. Andrus Park is a 2-acre mini park located in downtown Boise, Idaho, directly across Jefferson Street from the entrance to the State Capitol. The park serves as a central meeting place for people who work and live downtown, as well as visitors to the State Capitol.
The park features brick walkways that wind through the space, providing easy access for pedestrians. Mature shade trees offer a respite from the sun, creating a pleasant environment for relaxation and outdoor activities. Colorful flowers in planting beds add visual interest and natural beauty to the urban setting.
In 2007, the Golden Garden Club of Boise launched a beautification project called "Let Freedom Ring" to renovate the park. This $63,500 project transformed the space, adding a central plaza to honor men and women who serve in the military or public service. The renovation included widening the existing asphalt walkway and enlarging the central point into a 20-foot diameter plaza. Sandstone blocks and additional benches were added to create seating around the exterior of the plaza.
The park was renamed in 2018 to honor Cecil D. Andrus, a former four-term Idaho Governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior known for his conservation efforts and public service. A bronze bust of Andrus was installed in the park as part of this dedication.
Cecil D. Andrus Park is open from sunrise to sunset and serves as a peaceful urban oasis in the heart of Boise's downtown area.
