About Discovery Park in Meridian

Discovery Park is a 64-acre regional park located in south Meridian, Idaho along E. Lake Hazel Road, between Eagle and Locust Grove Roads. Established in 2019, it is Meridian's newest regional park and offers a wide array of recreational facilities for visitors of all ages.

The park features several unique and exciting amenities designed to cater to different interests and age groups. For children, there is a large playground area with separate structures for toddlers and older kids. The playground includes interactive elements such as a sand and water play area, roller slides, and a seasonal splash pad. More adventurous visitors can enjoy dual zip lines, a small climbing wall, and boulders for climbing.

Discovery Park also boasts extensive sports facilities. The Active Area includes six pickleball courts and two tennis courts that are dual-striped for pickleball. There are also bocce ball courts, basketball courts, and a 40-yard dash challenge area. For softball enthusiasts, the park offers four illuminated adult slow-pitch softball fields and one non-illuminated youth fast-pitch/senior softball field.

The park includes a dedicated Teen Area featuring a skate park, a sand volleyball court, and hammock poles. A shelter with WiFi is also available in this section. Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy the bike park and pump track, though these facilities may be closed during wet or inclement weather for safety reasons.

Throughout the park, visitors will find public art pieces, artisan-made benches, and picnic shelters equipped with charcoal grills and electrical outlets. Paved walking paths wind through the park, providing opportunities for leisurely strolls or more vigorous exercise. The park also includes a restroom and concession building, and space has been allocated for a future community garden.

Discovery Park is designed to be educational as well as recreational. It features Idaho-themed interpretive panels that provide information about the state's natural and cultural heritage. There's also a selfie station for visitors who want to commemorate their visit.

The park is open to the public daily, with some facilities like the picnic shelters available for reservation. Certain amenities, such as the sports courts and softball fields, can be reserved for a fee during specific seasons.
