About River Heritage Park in Carmel
River Heritage Park, located along River Road in Carmel, Indiana, spans 40 acres and offers a rich blend of natural beauty and inclusive design. Originally developed in 1998-1999, the park underwent a significant transformation in 2022 as part of the Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation's Reimagining Parks initiative, funded by the Clay Township Impact Program. This revitalized space emphasizes accessibility and inclusion while showcasing the White River, one of the area's most significant natural resources.
The park features a fully accessible 0.75-mile nature trail with a specialized rubberized surface and boardwalks designed to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. River Heritage Park boasts an inclusive playground with two distinct sections: one near the park's entrance and another integrated along the back trail. These play areas include wheelchair-friendly features like swings, climbing structures, a merry-go-round, and even zip lines, ensuring that children of all abilities can enjoy the space.
