About Riverwood Park in Indianapolis
Riverwood Park is an 11.6-acre public park located in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana. The park, which became part of the Indy Parks system in 2006, was formerly the site of White River Elementary School, later renamed Phoenix School.
Riverwood Park offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors. The park features a playground with multiple slides, swings, bridges, firemen poles, monkey bars, and a climbing wall. Adjacent to the playground is a splash pad, which operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, providing a cool respite during hot summer months.
The park includes a large, grassy open field suitable for various activities such as soccer or football. Basketball enthusiasts can enjoy the park's basketball courts. For those seeking a more relaxed visit, there is a shaded picnic shelter area with several tables, offering a pleasant spot for outdoor meals and gatherings.
Riverwood Park serves as the home field for Bishop Chatard High School's lacrosse and soccer teams. The park is open from 8 AM to 9 PM daily, making it accessible for both early morning and evening activities.
Visitors should note that shade is limited near the playground and splash pad areas. The restroom facilities and drinking fountains are located at a distance from these areas, so planning accordingly is advisable for families with young children.
