About Naftzger Park in Wichita
Naftzger Park is a vibrant green space located in downtown Wichita, Kansas, at the intersection of Douglas Avenue and St. Francis Street. Originally established in 1977-78 as a bequest from the Naftzger family, the park has undergone significant renovations to become a modern urban oasis that promotes togetherness and community engagement. Its redesign has transformed it into a central hub that connects the Old Town area with Wichita's growing entertainment district.
The park features an open layout with a variety of attractions and amenities. The Evergy Pavilion serves as a focal point for live performances and events, while the large LED screen is used for movie nights, sports broadcasts, or as a backdrop to stage events. For relaxation and recreation, the park offers an open lawn area for lounging or informal activities and designated walking and seating spaces. A dog park provides a dedicated area for pet owners, and the water/splash element adds a playful touch for families and children on warm days.
Surrounded by restaurants, shops, and outdoor dining spaces, Naftzger Park integrates seamlessly into the urban fabric, encouraging social interactions and bustling foot traffic. It has become a popular spot for public and private events, including community festivals, crafting workshops, and film screenings. Naftzger Park is not only a space for leisure but also a place that contributes to the city’s sustainability efforts through elements like its urban greenery and stormwater management systems.
