Chapin Park

Chapin Park, located at Hydraulic and MacArthur in Wichita, Kansas, spans an impressive 190 acres and offers diverse recreational opportunities. Once a former landfill, the park has been transformed into a vibrant community space that emphasizes outdoor activities and leisure. One of its most notable features is the Arson Canine Ashley Memorial Dog Park, the first of its kind in Wichita, named after a retired fire department dog. This dog park includes two off-leash enclosures, one covering 15.15 acres for larger dogs and another 1.19-acre area for smaller dogs. Both sections are equipped with shade shelters, water stations, waste removal facilities, and on-site parking.

The park is also a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a mix of gravel walking trails and mountain biking paths, making it a favorite spot for bikers and hikers alike. A designated area caters to model airplane enthusiasts, managed by the Wichita Radio Control Club. Additionally, the open fields within the park are ideal for kite flying and informal outdoor activities. Though trees are sparse due to the park’s history as a landfill, the expansive space provides plenty of opportunities for recreation. Visitors can find restrooms conveniently located on-site to support their day out at the park.
