About St Roch Park in New Orleans
St. Roch Park, also known as St. Roch Playground or Harold Sampson Jr. St. Roch Playground, is a public recreational space located in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. The park is situated within Council District D of the city.
The park has undergone renovations in recent years, with efforts to revitalize the area after it was used as a temporary parking lot for FEMA trailers following Hurricane Katrina. In early 2013, Mayor Mitch Landrieu allocated nearly $2 million for the park's renovation and restoration. On July 1, 2013, a ribbon-cutting ceremony officially reopened the park to the public.
St. Roch Park serves as a central gathering place for the community, offering various recreational facilities for residents of all ages. The park is open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, providing ample time for visitors to enjoy its amenities throughout the day.
The park is overseen by the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), which manages numerous parks and playgrounds throughout the city. NORDC aims to provide quality recreational experiences for all citizens of New Orleans, with a particular focus on youth and teen development through self-discipline and teamwork.
