Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park

Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park, located just three miles west of Blanchard, Louisiana, covers 160 acres of pine-oak-hickory forest and serves as a remarkable hub for environmental education and outdoor recreation in northwestern Louisiana. Designed to connect the community with nature, the park conserves its natural forest, offering visitors a chance to experience diverse floristic species—approximately 20% of Louisiana’s native flora can be found here. The park is particularly notable for its old-growth trees and habitat gradients visible along the Caddo Trail, one of the park’s five miles of serene hiking trails.

The park features a Visitor Center equipped with interactive exhibits, live animal displays, and an outdoor aviary hosting birds of prey such as owls and a bald eagle. Knowledgeable naturalists at the park provide guided tours and programs, including workshops, nature walks, and tailored activities for schools, scout groups, and the general public. One highlight of the park is its accessibility, with trails and facilities designed to accommodate all visitors, including those with disabilities. In addition, the park has a rentable pavilion with restrooms and supports seasonal events, nature education programs, and even birthday parties.
