About Generals Park in Quincy

Generals Park is a recently developed public space located in Quincy, Massachusetts. The park serves as both a functional recreational area and a monument honoring 18 U.S. Generals with local roots, as well as all military personnel from Quincy.

Situated in downtown Quincy, Generals Park acts as a gateway to the city center and is part of the New Quincy Center revitalization project. The park features bronze likenesses of seven generals, including three statues and four busts. These sculptures are complemented by an array of pavers and a dynamic circular water feature.

The park's design incorporates interpretive text etched in stone, recalling the individual achievements of three four-star generals and offering moments of reflection and recognition. The hardscape materials, including brick and stone, are designed to be durable and integrate with Quincy's reinvigorated downtown aesthetic.

In addition to its commemorative aspects, Generals Park provides an important open space for residents and visitors. The landscape architects worked to develop an attractive park atmosphere that offers various seating options and site furnishings. The area is surrounded by colorful plantings and shade trees, with a large open lawn for passive recreation.

The park was dedicated on September 11, 2021, in a ceremony celebrating Quincy's "modern-day patriots." This new public space unites with the adjacent Generals Bridge to create a functional and monumental entrance to downtown Quincy.
