About Brennan Recreation Area in Detroit
Brennan Recreation Area is a public park located in Detroit, Michigan. The centerpiece of the park is Brennan Pool, which is the only outdoor pool operated by the city of Detroit. The pool was built in 1929 and underwent renovations before reopening in 2014.
Brennan Recreation Area serves as an important community gathering place, especially during the summer months. The pool offers swimming lessons, water aerobics classes, and recreational swimming opportunities for local residents. The facility is particularly valued for providing affordable access to aquatic activities in an urban setting.
In addition to the pool, Brennan Recreation Area includes other recreational facilities and green spaces. The park is part of the larger Rouge Park complex, one of Detroit's largest public parks.
Recent developments for Brennan Recreation Area include plans for a new 25,000+ square foot community center to be built adjacent to the pool. This project, funded by a $20 million donation from Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores' Family Foundation, aims to provide indoor recreational facilities for the Cody-Rouge neighborhood.
