About Stabenow Park in Lansing
Debbie Stabenow Park, formerly known as Washington Park, is a significant green space located on the south side of Lansing, Michigan. Renamed in honor of the retiring U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow in October 2024, this park holds both cultural and community value. Stabenow grew up in the area and has fond memories of ice skating at the park's pond. The park features a mural created by local artist Tea Brown, celebrating nine women, including Stabenow, who were inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.
The park is part of a broader initiative to enhance public spaces in Lansing. Situated within a corridor of care, Debbie Stabenow Park is near facilities such as youth shelters and future city justice and public service complexes. This context emphasizes the park's role in fostering community and connection. Spanning 43 acres, it offers a variety of recreational amenities and serves as a hub for outdoor activities.
