About The Parade in Kansas City

The Parade Park, located in Kansas City, Missouri, is a historic urban green space with roots dating back to the late 19th century. Originally envisioned as a central point for recreation and amusements in the city's 1893 master plan, the park has evolved over the years to serve various community needs.

Acquired by the city in 1900, The Parade Park has a rich history of public use. In its early days, it featured a public bathhouse, built in 1901, which provided bathing and swimming facilities to residents at a time when many homes lacked indoor plumbing. The park also served as a popular winter destination in the early 1900s, with its ball fields flooded to create an ice skating rink.

Throughout its history, The Parade Park has adapted to changing times. It has housed community centers, swimming pools, and even served as an army camp from 1942-1943. The park's southeastern corner once contained the General Operating Plant, Machine and Repair shop for the entire park and boulevard system, built in 1912.

Today, The Parade Park continues to be a vital community space, offering a variety of recreational facilities for Kansas City residents. It features a running track, paths for walking, and various sports facilities. The park also includes a playground area with a splash pad, providing a refreshing spot for children during warmer months.

The Parade Park is not just a recreational space but also a piece of Kansas City's history, reflecting the city's development and changing needs over more than a century.
