About Hodge Park in Kansas City

Hodge Park is the second largest park in Kansas City, Missouri, spanning over 1,000 acres of land. Located in the Northland area, this expansive green space offers a diverse range of recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages.

The park features a mix of natural and developed areas, including heavily wooded, rolling terrain and open prairies. Its landscape is characterized by gently rolling woodlands and quiet streams, providing a scenic escape from the urban environment. The natural habitat of the park is home to a variety of wildlife, including a small herd of bison that can be viewed near the park's entrance.

One of the park's notable features is the Shoal Creek Living History Museum, situated at the southern end. This outdoor museum comprises 21 structures, including 13 authentic 19th-century buildings dating from 1807 to 1885. These historic log cabins and homes were relocated from surrounding counties to create a village setting, offering visitors a glimpse into 19th-century Midwestern life.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Hodge Park offers an extensive trail system. There are approximately 7 miles of single-track, natural surface trails winding through the park's woodlands. These trails are suitable for both hiking and mountain biking, with minimal elevation changes making them accessible to a wide range of skill levels. Additionally, a paved two-mile out-and-back trail traverses the park from north to south.

The park also caters to sports enthusiasts with its athletic facilities. It features multiple sports fields, including baseball, football, and soccer fields. Golf lovers can enjoy the Hodge Park Golf Course, an 18-hole public course measuring 6,050 yards with a par of 70.

For families and children, Hodge Park boasts a large, modern playground. This play area, renovated in 2019, spans over half an acre and includes various climbing structures, slides, and other play equipment suitable for different age groups.
