About Suson Park in St Louis
Suson Park is a 98-acre public park located in South St. Louis County, Missouri, approximately 15 miles south of the Gateway Arch. The park is known for its unique feature - a working animal farm that is open to the public year-round.
The animal farm at Suson Park houses a variety of farm animals, including horses, miniature horses, ponies, miniature donkeys, a bull, chickens, turkeys, pigs, and goats. Visitors can observe and interact with these animals, providing an educational experience about farm life, especially for urban dwellers. The farm animals are housed in four barns on the property, some of which were built in the 1960s.
In addition to the animal farm, Suson Park features four fishing lakes that are stocked monthly with various fish species such as blue gill, bass, catfish, and trout. Fishing is a popular activity in the park, with many visitors coming to cast their lines in these well-maintained lakes.
The park also includes several recreational facilities. There is a playground area for children, walking paths throughout the grounds, and picnic areas for families and groups to enjoy. Multiple reservable shelters are available for larger gatherings or events.
Suson Park is open daily from 8 a.m. until 30 minutes past sunset. The Barn House, where visitors can see the farm animals up close, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. While most activities in the park are free, visitors can bring quarters to feed some of the animals, such as the goats.
The park's combination of farm life experience, fishing opportunities, and standard park amenities makes it a unique destination in the St. Louis area, offering both educational and recreational experiences for visitors of all ages.
