About Kiener Plaza in St Louis

Kiener Plaza Park is a public green space located in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The park is part of the Gateway Mall and is bounded by Chestnut and Market streets on the north and south, and Broadway and 7th Street on the east and west. Originally dedicated in 1962, it spans 1.9 acres and serves as a central gathering spot for city residents and visitors.

The park is named after Harry Kiener, a local athlete who competed in the 1904 Olympics held in St. Louis during the World's Fair. Kiener later became a steel company executive and philanthropist. In honor of his athletic legacy, the park features a prominent statue called "The Olympic Runner" created by Lithuanian-born sculptor William Zorach.

Kiener Plaza underwent a significant renovation in 2016-2017, which modernized its features and enhanced its functionality. The redesigned space now includes a variety of amenities that cater to different activities and age groups. The park offers excellent views of the Old Courthouse and the Gateway Arch, making it a popular spot for photography and sightseeing.

The plaza serves as a venue for numerous public events throughout the year, including outdoor movies, concerts, and seasonal festivals. Its central location in the heart of downtown St. Louis makes it easily accessible and a convenient place for urban dwellers to enjoy outdoor recreation and relaxation.
