Carnegie Park

Carnegie Park is a small urban park located in St. Louis, Missouri. Established in 1904, the park covers 2.07 acres of land, making it a compact green space within the city. It is situated just south of the larger Benton Park, at the intersection of Indiana and Utah Streets.

The park's history dates back to 1899 when the land was initially set aside for public use. Originally intended to be a market, the plan was abandoned due to protests from nearby property owners. Subsequently, the Park Department took charge of the area and developed it into a public park in 1904.

Carnegie Park is divided into two nearly equal sections by Utah Street, creating distinct northern and southern areas. The northern section has been embraced by local residents, featuring plantings around trees, park benches, and clusters of native grasses and perennials. This part of the park shows signs of community use and care.

In contrast, the southern section of Carnegie Park is more minimalist in its design. It primarily consists of an open field with mowed grass and a few scattered trees, offering a blank canvas for various recreational activities.

The park is bordered by Indiana Avenue, which is lined with classic St. Louis homes and street trees, adding to the neighborhood's charm. While Carnegie Park may not have extensive facilities, it serves as a valuable green space for the Benton Park neighborhood, providing residents with a place for relaxation and outdoor activities.
