Florence Park

Florence Park, located in the Florence neighborhood of North Omaha, Nebraska, holds the distinction of being the oldest park and original town square in the state. Established in 1846 by the first pioneers in the area, this historic park has been a central feature of the community for over 175 years.

The park's origins are closely tied to the Mormon settlers of Winter Quarters, who designated this area as their town square during their temporary settlement in the 1840s. For more than a century, Florence Park was home to the landmark Mormon Tree, which served as a significant historical marker.

Spanning 2.6 acres, Florence Park continues to serve as a recreational space for residents of the surrounding Florence neighborhood. Its long-standing presence has made it a witness to the area's rich history, from the days of the Mormon pioneers to the present.

In the southern end of the park, visitors can find an official Nebraska State Historical Marker that recounts the story of Winter Quarters, providing insight into the area's significant role in the westward migration of the mid-19th century.
