About Virginia Foothills Park in Reno

Virginia Foothills Park is a 15-acre public park located in Reno, Nevada, situated off Western Skies Road next to Brown Elementary School. The park, officially completed and dedicated in 1993, was in development by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners for many years prior, with discussions about land acquisition dating back to 1979.

The park is nestled in the Virginia Foothills community, an area that presents residents with a spacious feel reminiscent of an "Old West" town while offering stylish living opportunities. This location provides easy access to various attractions, being approximately 15 minutes away from Virginia City, Lake Tahoe, and world-class skiing.

Virginia Foothills Park features a diverse range of facilities catering to various recreational activities. The park includes multiple sports courts, picnic areas, and fitness amenities. It also incorporates a fitness trail and a baseball/soccer field, which is available by permit only.

The park's history is intertwined with the surrounding area's development. The adjacent Brown Elementary School, which opened in 1989, is the second iteration of a school originally built in 1877 by Peleg Brown on his ranch land. The park's location was once part of the agricultural landscape that characterized the region, with nearby lands belonging to prominent ranching families such as the Curtis, Caramellas, and Damontes.

Visitors to Virginia Foothills Park can enjoy the outdoors while taking advantage of the various amenities provided. The park serves as a recreational hub for the local community, offering spaces for both active sports and leisurely activities.
