About Buffalo RiverFest Park in Buffalo
Buffalo River Fest Park is a 3-acre public park in Buffalo, New York. Opened in 2011, the park sits along the Buffalo River in the city's Old First Ward neighborhood.
The park was developed on a former vacant industrial site that had been contaminated and overgrown. It has since been transformed into a beautifully landscaped green space that offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Buffalo River while celebrating the area's rich history.
Buffalo River Fest Park features a boardwalk along the river, providing scenic views of the waterway and surrounding landscape. The park includes interpretive signs that educate visitors about the local history and environment. A pergola, benches, and walkways offer places for relaxation and strolling.
One of the park's prominent features is a band shell, which hosts various events and performances, particularly during the warmer months. The park also has a wharf that extends out over the river, allowing visitors to get closer to the water.
Throughout the year, Buffalo River Fest Park hosts a variety of events and activities. These include free concerts every Wednesday from May through September, the annual Buffalo River Festival in June, and a Family Independence Eve Celebration on July 3rd. The park also serves as a venue for other community gatherings like Easter egg hunts and German Fest.
The development of Buffalo River Fest Park is credited with being a catalyst for further redevelopment along the Buffalo River and the Ohio Street Corridor, helping to revitalize this historic area of the city.
