About Durand Eastman Park in Rochester
Durand Eastman Park is a 977-acre park located partly in Rochester and partly in Irondequoit, New York. It was established in 1909 after Dr. Henry S. Durand and George Eastman donated land to the City of Rochester for use as a public park.
The park features 5,000 feet of Lake Ontario shoreline, including a public beach. Within the park are several small lakes, with Durand Lake and Eastman Lake being the largest. The park's terrain consists of steep wooded slopes, valleys, and scenic vistas.
Durand Eastman Park contains an arboretum with hundreds of varieties of trees and shrubs. The park is known for its spring flowering trees and vibrant fall foliage. There are over 5 miles of hiking trails that wind through the forested areas and around the lakes.
The park includes an 18-hole public golf course that was originally built in 1917 and later redesigned by renowned golf architect Robert Trent Jones in 1933. Other recreational facilities include picnic areas, playgrounds, and fishing access.
In winter, the park is popular for cross-country skiing, with some trails groomed for skiing. The park is free to enter and is open year-round from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily.
