About Camp T.N. Spencer Park in Concord
Camp T.N. Spencer Park is a 50-acre recreational area located in Concord, North Carolina. The park was dedicated in 2003 as a result of a partnership between Cabarrus County and the Cabarrus Boys and Girls Club. Prior to its establishment as a public park, the location operated as a private summer camp since the late 1940s.
The park features a diverse range of natural and recreational facilities. It includes three fishing ponds, with the largest being Bear Lake, a 2-acre body of water adjacent to the rental cabins. Bear Lake has an average depth of less than five feet and is stocked annually with channel catfish. Fishing enthusiasts can also catch largemouth bass and sunfish in the park's ponds.
A 1.5-mile trail loops around the park's perimeter, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the natural surroundings. The trail, known as the Camp T.N. Spencer Park TRACK Trail, provides a scenic route for walking and light hiking.
For those interested in overnight stays, the park offers eight tent sites equipped with restrooms and a bathhouse, as well as six rental cabins. These facilities allow visitors to immerse themselves in the park's natural setting for extended periods.
The park's swimming pool is a seasonal attraction, typically open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Additionally, educational opportunities are provided every Friday and/or Saturday night for campers and cabin renters, enhancing the visitor experience with informative programs.
Camp T.N. Spencer Park continues to serve the community, offering a blend of recreational activities and natural experiences. The Boys and Girls Club summer camp program still operates at the park each summer, maintaining a connection to its historical roots.
