James L. Dorton Park

Dorton Park is a 24-acre community park located in Concord, North Carolina. The park serves as a recreational hub for local residents and visitors alike. The park features a diverse range of facilities catering to various outdoor activities and sports.

One of the park's notable features is its 1.1-mile gravel walking trail, which winds through the grounds and provides an opportunity for exercise and leisurely strolls. The park is also home to multiple athletic facilities, including soccer fields and tennis courts, catering to sports enthusiasts of different ages and skill levels.

For disc golf aficionados, Dorton Park offers a 9-hole disc golf course that is free and open to the public. The course provides an engaging challenge for players while allowing them to enjoy the park's natural surroundings.

Families with children can take advantage of the park's playground equipment, which includes two separate play areas suitable for different age groups. The park also features three picnic shelters, making it an ideal spot for outdoor gatherings and community events.

Dorton Park is currently undergoing extensive renovations that began in September 2023. The park is temporarily closed and is anticipated to reopen in Spring 2025. The renovation plans include expanding the parking lot, adding new playground equipment, constructing two new pedestrian bridges over the Afton Run greenway, and expanding the disc golf course from 9 to 18 holes. Additionally, the park will feature a connection to the Coddle Creek Greenway upon completion of the renovations.
