Long Meadow Park

Long Meadow Park is a public recreational area located in Durham, North Carolina. Established in 1932 through a land donation by John Sprunt Hill to the City of Durham, the park has a rich history and serves as a valuable community space.

Spanning 9.5 acres, Long Meadow Park offers a variety of outdoor activities and facilities for visitors of all ages. The park features well-maintained walking trails that wind through lush greenery, providing a peaceful escape from the bustle of city life. These paths are suitable for both leisurely strolls and more vigorous exercise routines.

The park includes sports facilities such as a youth baseball/softball field and a basketball court, both equipped with field lights for evening use. For younger visitors, there are two separate playground areas: one designed for children aged 2-5 and another for those aged 5-12. Standard swings and toddler bucket swings are also available.

Long Meadow Park provides ample space for picnicking and outdoor gatherings. A picnic shelter with tables and a grill allows for comfortable outdoor dining. Additional picnic tables are scattered throughout the park for more casual use.

The park is connected to the local greenway system, offering access to broader trail networks for those interested in longer walks or bike rides. Restroom facilities and water fountains are available for visitor convenience.

It's worth noting that while Long Meadow Park previously featured a swimming pool, it has been permanently closed due to structural concerns and its location in a flood plain. The City of Durham has plans for future improvements and additions to the park's amenities as part of ongoing community development efforts.
