Morreene Road Park

Morreene Road Park is an 11.96-acre public recreational space located in Durham, North Carolina. The park is notable for being the site of Durham's first purpose-built ADA accessible play structure, making it a pioneer in inclusive park design for the area.

The playground at Morreene Road Park offers an accessible play area designed for children aged 2-12. It features safety ramps, a Braille clock and alphabet, and a flat rubber surface that is firm enough for wheelchairs. The rubber surface, while bouncy in some areas, is generally firmer than typical playground surfaces to accommodate wheelchair users.

In July 2019, the park underwent significant renovations, including a full reconstruction of the double tennis courts, removal of old asphalt around the playground, addition of new ADA-accessible pedestrian pathways, and installation of a permanent public art piece. The art installation, created by artist Muriel Epling, includes a textured wall showcasing the American Sign Language alphabet and "Play More" spelled out by relief sculptures of hands. The artwork also features design elements along the safety railing and stamped stencils along the sidewalk that pair with tactile, mosaic figures on the textured wall.

The park provides a variety of recreational facilities for visitors, including sports courts and fields. The park offers ample amenities.
