About Indian Trail Park in Durham
Indian Trail Park is an 8.5-acre public park located in West Central Durham, North Carolina. The park features a mix of recreational facilities and natural areas, providing opportunities for both active and passive enjoyment.
A key feature of Indian Trail Park is its playground, which was constructed in June 2017. The playground is notable for being shaded, which is relatively uncommon among Durham's parks. It includes play equipment designed for children ages 2-12, such as a modern see-saw, a multi-child spinner, and a swing set. The swing set offers both standard swings and a basket swing that accommodates children of various ages and abilities.
The park provides access to the West Ellerbee Creek Trail, a paved greenway that connects to the larger trail system in Durham. Along this trail, visitors can find a series of strength training exercise stations, allowing for outdoor fitness activities.
In addition to its recreational amenities, Indian Trail Park includes natural areas. In 2016, the park underwent some vegetation management, with goats being used to clear approximately 3/4 of an acre of unwanted vegetation, brush, and invasive species. This work improved visibility of the playground from the trail and parking lot.
The park is open from dawn to dusk, providing residents with daily access to its facilities and natural spaces.
