About Burton Park in Durham
Burton Park is a 10.34-acre public park located in East Central Durham, North Carolina. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities and amenities for visitors of all ages. In May 2022, the playground structure at Burton Park was replaced through a partnership between Durham Parks and Recreation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, and KABOOM!, with the aim of providing hundreds of children access to a safe, high-quality place to play.
The park features a basketball court for sports enthusiasts and a picnic shelter with tables, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings or community events. For younger visitors, there is a playground suitable for children aged 2-12 years old, which includes swings and a disc swing.
Burton Park also includes green spaces and walking paths, allowing visitors to enjoy nature and engage in outdoor activities. A water fountain is available for the convenience of park-goers.
It's important to note that as of March 2025, there is a water quality notice in effect for Burton Park. The City of Durham discovered an illegal discharge upstream of the creek running through the park, which is part of the Third Fork Creek watershed. As a precautionary measure, wading and playing in the creek are currently not allowed while chemical testing is underway to assess the impact on the downstream areas.
