Lake Lynn Park

Lake Lynn Loop is a popular recreational trail located in northwest Raleigh, North Carolina. The trail encircles Lake Lynn, a man-made lake created in 1976 for flood control purposes. The loop is approximately 2.8 miles (4.5 km) long and offers a mix of paved surfaces and wooden boardwalks, making it accessible for various activities such as walking, jogging, and cycling.

The trail is part of the larger Hare Snipe Creek Trail system and connects to the Lake Lynn Community Center. It provides scenic views of the lake and surrounding natural areas, offering visitors a chance to observe local wildlife including turtles, ducks, geese, and various bird species. The trail is mostly flat with a few small inclines, making it suitable for users of different fitness levels.

Lake Lynn Loop is known for its family-friendly environment and is frequently used by residents of nearby apartment complexes and neighborhoods. The trail features shaded areas along much of its length, providing relief during warmer months. Wooden boardwalks over portions of the lake offer unique vantage points and add variety to the walking experience.

The park surrounding the loop trail includes additional amenities and facilities, enhancing its appeal as a community gathering space. However, it's important to note that the trail can become crowded during peak times, particularly on weekends and evenings.

As of 2025, the City of Raleigh has plans for improvements to the western portion of the loop trail, including rehabilitation of the trail surface, widening, drainage enhancements, improved access from adjacent communities, and replacement of a pedestrian bridge. These upgrades are scheduled to take place between 2024 and 2027, aiming to enhance the overall user experience and accessibility of the trail.
