About Cascade Valley Metro Park in Akron
Cascade Valley Metro Park is a 526-acre park located in central Summit County between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The Oxbow Area is one section of this larger park, situated along the Cuyahoga River.
The Oxbow Area features a 1.2-mile moderate difficulty hiking trail that winds through the floodplain and ascends the valley sides, offering scenic views of the river valley below. The trail provides opportunities to observe local flora and fauna, including wildflowers in spring and summer.
This area of the park gets its name from the oxbow bend in the Cuyahoga River visible from certain vantage points. The terrain includes both wooded areas and open fields. Visitors can enjoy activities like hiking, nature observation, and picnicking.
The Oxbow Area also contains several sports fields available on a first-come, first-served basis for casual use. A paddling access point is located here, though it is recommended only for expert paddlers due to river conditions.
As part of the larger Cascade Valley Metro Park, the Oxbow Area contributes to the preservation of the Cuyahoga River ecosystem and provides recreational opportunities for residents of Akron and surrounding communities.
