Chestnut Ridge Park is located in Akron, Ohio. The park is situated in the southwestern part of the city and offers visitors a peaceful natural setting. Chestnut Ridge is notable for being the first ridge in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, spanning about 4,500 feet and rising to approximately 1,116 feet in elevation.
The park features a variety of walking trails that cater to different skill levels. These include the 0.4-mile Homesite Trail, which goes through woods and fields past an orchard and remnant homestead; the 1-mile Meadows Trail, which follows the edge of a high meadow and crosses a stream; and the 1-mile Ridge Trail, which includes a gradual 150-foot ascent through the woods to the top of the ridge.
For mountain biking enthusiasts, Chestnut Ridge Park offers a 10.5-mile trail designed specifically for this activity. The trail features steep climbs and descents through deep woods, with a 12- to 18-inch-wide path that includes a narrow creek bridge and banked turns. It's divided into a 5-mile inner loop for beginners and intermediates, and an outer loop for advanced riders.
The park also includes a 2-acre fishing pond where visitors can fish for bluegill, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. Additionally, the park features a stone stage and amphitheater, adding a cultural element to its natural attractions.
