Washington Park

Washington Park is a historic urban green space located in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Originally established in 1855 on land that formerly served as a cemetery, the park has undergone significant transformations throughout its history to become a vibrant community gathering place.

Spanning 8 acres, Washington Park sits across from the iconic Cincinnati Music Hall and is bounded by 12th, Race, and Elm Streets. The park features a mix of open green spaces, landscaped areas, and various amenities for public use. Its central location makes it a focal point for community events and activities in the heart of Cincinnati.

In 2012, Washington Park underwent a major $48 million renovation and expansion project. This revitalization effort added 2 acres to the park's footprint and introduced several new features while preserving its historic elements. The redesign aimed to create a more welcoming and functional space for residents and visitors alike.

The park hosts over 400 events annually, including concerts, markets, fitness classes, and children's activities. Its versatile spaces accommodate everything from large gatherings to quiet relaxation. The great lawn provides an open area for picnics, sports, and outdoor performances, while shaded paths offer pleasant walking routes throughout the park.

Washington Park also incorporates elements that pay homage to its history and the surrounding neighborhood. Civil War-era memorials, including busts of Frederick Hecker and Colonel Robert L. McCook, as well as cannons, can be found within the park grounds. These features serve as reminders of the area's rich cultural heritage.
