Scissortail Park is a 70-acre urban oasis located in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The park, which opened in 2019, spans from the core of downtown to the shore of the Oklahoma River. It is divided into two main sections: the 40-acre Upper Park and the 30-acre Lower Park, connected by the Skydance Bridge over Interstate 40.
The Upper Park, which opened first, features a variety of engaging experiences for visitors. It includes ornamental gardens and woodlands, showcasing Oklahoma's natural beauty. A 3.7-acre lake offers opportunities for recreational activities, while the Love's Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn provide space for outdoor performances and events. The park also incorporates elements of the area's history, with the restored historic Union Station serving as an architectural highlight.
The Lower Park, completed in 2022, complements the Upper Park with a focus on athletic and recreational activities. It provides spaces for various sports and reflects more of the natural environment around Oklahoma City. Together, both sections of the park offer 70 acres of educational and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Scissortail Park was designed to be accessible and inclusive, with wide, accessible paths and walkways throughout. The park's layout encourages community gathering, physical activity, and appreciation of nature. It serves as a front yard for nearby attractions such as the convention center and the Paycom Center, enhancing the downtown experience for both residents and visitors.
The park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts, farmers markets, fitness classes, and seasonal activities.
