About Turkey Mountain Park in Tulsa
Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area is a 650-acre natural area located along the west bank of the Arkansas River in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rising 300 feet above the river, the heavily wooded "mountain" offers visitors a chance to experience nature within the city limits.
The park features over 25 miles of winding dirt trails that are popular for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. The trails range from easy to difficult, with some rocky and steep sections providing a challenge for more experienced users. Two small ponds can be found within the park.
Turkey Mountain's forest is dominated by post oak, blackjack oak, and hickory trees, with some specimens dating back to the early 1800s. Wildlife such as deer, foxes, and various bird species can be spotted throughout the area. In spring, redbud trees add splashes of color to the landscape.
The park offers scenic views of downtown Tulsa and the Arkansas River from its highest points. While feeling secluded, Turkey Mountain is conveniently located just minutes from the heart of the city, making it a popular urban escape for outdoor enthusiasts.
In recent years, the park has undergone improvements and expansions. New professionally-designed mountain biking trails have been added, enhancing the offerings for cyclists. Plans are in place for further amenity upgrades, including a new visitor center and additional parking areas.
