About Hollinshead Park in Bend
Hollinshead Park is a 16.1-acre community park located in northeast Bend, Oregon. The park was formerly a working ranch owned by Dean and Lily Hollinshead, who donated the property to the Bend Park and Recreation District. Today, it retains much of its original pioneer charm and offers visitors a glimpse into the area's history.
The park features several original outbuildings that have been preserved, including the renovated Hollinshead Barn, a tack shed, and the Share Croppers House, which now serves as a museum. These structures provide a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the park's historical significance and learn about the region's agricultural past.
Much of Hollinshead Park consists of open grass fields under mature trees, which were once part of the original orchard. The park also includes a natural area with a walking trail, allowing visitors to enjoy the preserved landscape. A community garden and demonstration garden are available for local residents to grow vegetables and flowers.
One of the park's popular features is an unfenced, off-leash dog area where pet owners can let their dogs run and play. However, plans are underway to enclose this area to improve safety and reduce conflicts between park users.
Hollinshead Park serves as a venue for various community events, including weddings and other private functions. The renovated Hollinshead Barn, in particular, is a sought-after location for such gatherings.
As part of ongoing improvements, the park is set to receive several upgrades, including a new permanent restroom, ADA-compliant pathways to increase accessibility, and the creation of a "History Walk" with interpretive signs to share the park's history and features.
