About Walnut Street Park in Hillsboro
Walnut Street Park is a small municipal park located in Hillsboro, Oregon. Opened in 1998, the park covers 2.5 acres (10,000 square meters) along southeast Walnut Street, several blocks east of Tenth Avenue. It is situated in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood southeast of Downtown Hillsboro.
The park provides green space and recreational amenities for the surrounding residential area. It features grassy open areas shaded by mature deciduous trees throughout the grounds. Paved pathways wind through the park, allowing for walking and strolling.
Walnut Street Park includes a children's playground area with play equipment. There is also a basketball court and a small soccer field for sports and games. A picnic shelter/gazebo offers a covered space for gatherings and picnics.
In 2012, the park received improvements funded by a federal grant. This included the addition of a splash pad water play area, new park benches, and fresh grass. The splash pad features colorful above-ground elements that spray and mist water, providing a place for children to cool off in warm weather. The water from the splash pad is recycled into the park's rain garden.
Walnut Street Park serves as a neighborhood gathering space and recreation area for families and residents in this section of Hillsboro. It provides opportunities for play, relaxation, and community connection in an urban setting.
