About Bicentennial Park in Hillsboro
Bicentennial Park is a neighborhood park located in Hillsboro, Oregon. Opened in 1976, it was named in honor of the United States' Bicentennial celebration and also commemorates Hillsboro's centennial as an incorporated city. The park covers approximately 4 acres (1.6 hectares) and is situated at the intersection of northeast 25th Avenue and Parkwood.
The park features a mix of recreational facilities and community infrastructure. One of its most prominent features is a large green water reservoir, which has a diameter of 150 feet (46 meters) and can hold up to 6 million gallons (23 million liters) of water. This reservoir serves as a functional part of the city's water system while also acting as a distinctive visual element within the park.
Bicentennial Park provides various amenities for visitors, including a soccer field, playground equipment, and picnic areas. The playground includes modern equipment, such as a climbing boulder, similar to those found in other Hillsboro parks. Large oak trees line the southern edge of the property, offering natural shade and aesthetic appeal.
The park has undergone several improvements since its inception. In 2009, renovations included the installation of new playground equipment, the construction of a new bathroom facility, and landscape improvements. These upgrades were partially funded by a federal grant, demonstrating ongoing community investment in the park's maintenance and development.
Bicentennial Park serves as a gathering place for the local community, offering space for both active recreation and passive enjoyment of the outdoors. Its central location in a residential area makes it easily accessible to nearby residents, contributing to its role as a valued neighborhood asset.
