UJ Hamby Park

U. J. Hamby Park is a 6.7-acre neighborhood park located in northwest Hillsboro, Oregon. Opened in 1990, the park offers both developed recreational areas and natural spaces for visitors to enjoy.

The park is named after Ulin J. Hamby, a longtime Chevrolet dealership owner in Hillsboro. In 1986, Hamby's son Eugene donated three acres of land to the city to create the park. Additional land was later purchased to expand it to its current size.

The western portion of Hamby Park features a wooded natural area with approximately 3,000 feet of trails. A small creek, a tributary of McKay Creek, runs through this section. Visitors can explore wetlands, a ravine, and a pond via bark dust-covered paths and bridges. The natural area is home to a variety of native plants and trees, including Douglas firs, western red cedars, and Pacific dogwoods. Wildlife such as birds, possums, and raccoons can often be spotted.

The eastern part of the park contains more developed amenities for recreation. This area includes a playground, a basketball court, and a picnic shelter with tables. There is also an open grass lawn for casual play and relaxation. A paved path connects the developed area to the forested trails, inviting visitors to experience both aspects of the park.

Hamby Park serves as a valuable green space and recreation area for the surrounding neighborhood. It provides opportunities for both active play and quiet nature appreciation, making it a versatile community asset in Hillsboro.
