East Fairmount Park

East Fairmount Park is a significant portion of Philadelphia's expansive Fairmount Park system, covering approximately 650 acres along the eastern banks of the Schuylkill River. This urban green space has been a part of Philadelphia's landscape since the mid-19th century, with its origins dating back to 1844 when the Lemon Hill estate was acquired by the city to protect the water supply and provide public recreational space.

The park features a diverse landscape including wooded areas, open meadows, and riverside trails. It is home to several historic mansions, including Lemon Hill, Mount Pleasant, and Woodford, which offer visitors a glimpse into Philadelphia's colonial and federal-era architecture. These houses, now serving as museums, are surrounded by carefully maintained gardens that reflect their historical significance.

East Fairmount Park is intersected by Kelly Drive, a scenic road that runs along the Schuylkill River and is popular among joggers, cyclists, and inline skaters. The famous Boathouse Row, a National Historic Landmark, sits within the park's boundaries, showcasing a series of 19th-century boathouses that light up the riverbank at night.
