About Kemble Park in Philadelphia

Kemble Park is an 8-acre green space located along Ogontz and Olney avenues in the Lower West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The park was named after Fanny Kemble, a 19th-century actress and writer celebrated for her work as an abolitionist who lived across the street from the park.

Kemble Park has a rich history of community involvement. For decades, local residents have been actively engaged in maintaining and improving the park. In recent years, a group of committed volunteers re-established the Friends of Kemble Park to continue this tradition of stewardship and engage the next generation of park users.

The park features a beautifully landscaped rain garden, designed in collaboration with the Philadelphia Water Department. This addition not only enhances the park's aesthetics but also serves an important environmental function. Kemble Park also includes a community garden, providing an opportunity for local residents to grow their own produce and foster a sense of community.

Kemble Park serves as a gathering place for the neighborhood, hosting various community events and activities. Families and organizations often use the park for picnics, and it provides a green oasis for local residents to enjoy nature within the urban environment.
