Buhl Community Park

Buhl Community Park at Allegheny Square is a public green space located in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood. The park, which opened in June 2012, sits across from the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and serves as a vibrant community gathering place.

The park features a central plaza with tables and chairs, providing a space for visitors to relax and socialize. A large meadow area showcases native grasses, enhancing the park's natural aesthetic and ecological value. The design incorporates natural bluestone walls that offer additional seating options throughout the space.

Environmental sustainability is a key aspect of Buhl Community Park. Rain gardens have been integrated into the landscape to aid in stormwater mitigation, demonstrating eco-friendly urban design practices. The park's renovation significantly increased the area's green footprint, introducing over 100 trees, 200 shrubs, and 5,000 perennials while reducing concrete surfacing from 89% to 37%.

The centerpiece of the park is Cloud Arbor, an interactive public art installation by artist Ned Kahn. This piece consists of 64 stainless steel poles that emit a cloud-like mist, creating a dynamic and engaging focal point for visitors. The artwork not only adds visual interest but also provides a cooling effect on warm days.

Buhl Community Park serves multiple functions for the community, hosting events such as lunchtime concerts during the summer months as part of the Solar Concert Series. It has become a popular spot for community gatherings, neighborhood dog walks, and private events, truly embodying its role as a central location for public life in the area.
