About Perry Neighborhood Park in Austin
Perry Neighborhood Park is located on Fairview Drive in Austin, Texas, situated behind Highland Park Elementary School. It is the only official City of Austin park within the Highland Park West Balcones Area Neighborhood Association (HPWBANA) boundaries. The park spans 6.6 acres and serves as a recreational hub for local residents and students.
The park's history is intertwined with its geological features, as it was once a limestone quarry. Evidence of past geological events is visible in the exposed rocks throughout the park, offering visitors a glimpse into the area's natural history. The tilted rock layers and fault lines visible in the park's bluffs are remnants of the Balcones Fault Zone, which shaped much of Central Texas millions of years ago.
Perry Neighborhood Park offers a variety of recreational facilities and natural areas. It features playground equipment, sports fields, and courts for various activities. The park also includes a wooded area with trails, providing opportunities for nature walks and exploration. A running track in the shape of a figure-8 loop surrounds the main recreational areas, offering a convenient space for exercise.
In recent years, the park has been enhanced with the addition of Perry Art Park, a collaboration between community groups and arts organizations. This initiative has brought public art installations to the park, further enriching the visitor experience and connecting the community through art and nature.
