About Leonard Park in Fort Worth

Leonard Park is a community park located in Fort Worth, Texas. The park spans 6.5 acres and offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for visitors. Originally part of the Ridgmar Addition, the land was initially reserved for a school but was later acquired by the Fort Worth Park Department in 1983.

The park is named after Marvin Leonard (1895-1970) and his wife Mary Leonard (1907-1995). Marvin Leonard was a prominent Fort Worth businessman who, along with his brother O.P., operated Leonard Brothers, which grew to become the largest retail business in Fort Worth. Mary Leonard was known for her community involvement and volunteer work.

Leonard Park features a playground area that underwent renovations in 2005, including site and equipment demolition, grading, and the installation of new playground equipment. The park also contains walking trails for visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings. A notable feature of the park is a backstop that predates the park itself, adding a touch of history to the grounds.

The park serves as a local gathering spot for residents, providing a space for outdoor activities, relaxation, and community events. Its location and amenities make it a valuable recreational resource for the surrounding neighborhoods in Fort Worth.
