About Grand Park (Undeveloped) in Frisco
Grand Park is a large urban park project currently under development in Frisco, Texas. When completed, it will span an impressive 1,011 acres, stretching from the Dallas North Tollway west to Lake Lewisville and FM 423. The park is designed to be a world-class urban oasis that welcomes all Frisco residents and visitors, catering to people of all ages and abilities.
The park's vision, approved by the Frisco City Council in January 2024, emphasizes four key behaviors: play, explore, discover, and connect. Grand Park is intended to serve as a unifying, shared space where families can form foundational memories and experience the natural beauty of the area.
One notable feature of Grand Park is the preservation of Blackland Prairie soil, a rapidly disappearing ecosystem in Texas. Less than one percent of this soil type remains in the state, making Grand Park an important site for ecological conservation and education.
The park's development is being carried out in phases, with the first phase focusing on the "Community Hub," a 300-acre section that will include various amenities across five districts: Civic Park, Adventure Play, Botanic Garden and Nature Area, Sports Park, and Nature Center. The Civic Park district is slated to be the first area developed, with groundbreaking expected in late summer or early fall of 2025.
Currently, visitors can experience a small portion of Grand Park through the Big Bluestem Trail, a natural, unpaved 2.2-mile trail that winds through the undeveloped park land. This trail, which opened in November 2022, offers a preview of the park's natural beauty and provides an opportunity for hiking and nature observation.
