About Limestone Quarry Park in Frisco
Limestone Quarry Park is a 17-acre community park located in Frisco, Texas. The park takes its name from a large limestone quarry that was once situated nearby. Completed in 2007, it offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational facilities for visitors of all ages.
The park features a playground area with several slides, including open slides and a short tube slide, as well as ramps, ladders, and stairs. The playground equipment is partially shaded by surrounding trees, providing some relief from the Texas sun. Two large pavilions with picnic tables and grills are available for visitors to use, offering a spot for family gatherings or community events.
One of the park's most notable features is its connection to the Taychas Trail, which runs alongside West Rowlett Creek. The trail is shaded by tall deciduous trees, making it ideal for walking, jogging, or biking. The creek itself is a highlight of the park, with a small, intermittent waterfall that flows over limestone rocks. This area provides a serene setting for nature observation and exploration.
The park also incorporates elements of public art. Mosaics created by artists Charlotte Lindsey and Larry Enge in 2007, titled "Blackland Forest/Prairie," reflect the grasslands that once covered the area. These can be found on the entrance sign and panels facing the Taychas Trail.
For those interested in active recreation, the park includes a basketball court. There are also open field areas suitable for activities like flying kites or playing informal games of soccer.
It's worth noting that while the park offers many amenities, it does not have restroom facilities or water fountains. Visitors are advised to plan accordingly, especially if intending to spend an extended period at the park.
