About Trebly Park in Houston
Trebly Park is a new urban green space located in downtown Houston, Texas. Opened in January 2023, the park sits at the corner of Leeland and Fannin Streets near Toyota Center. The L-shaped park covers an area that spans portions of three city blocks, giving rise to its name "Trebly" which means "three times as much".
The park was developed by the Downtown Redevelopment Authority to serve the growing residential population in the southern part of downtown Houston. It aims to provide a community gathering space for nearby residents, workers, and visitors.
Trebly Park features a central lawn framed by garden zones, offering a flexible space for events and relaxation. The park includes separate dog runs for large and small breeds, catering to pet owners in the area. A Live Oak-lined walkway provides shade and a pleasant environment for strolls.
One of the park's main attractions is its public art program. The park showcases rotating art installations, with the inaugural piece being "Porta Pigmenta" by German artists Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic of Quintessenz. This colorful installation creates waves of color that change with wind and light. Additionally, a whimsical playscape called "Whale Bone Dinner Party" by Brooklyn-based art duo Chiaozza offers an interactive experience for children.
Anchoring the park is a 2,400-square-foot café operated by Tout Suite, a popular local eatery. The café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with coffee, pastries, and other refreshments. It features both indoor and outdoor seating options.
To promote sustainable transportation, the park includes a BCycle station, bike racks, and a bike repair station. These amenities support cycling as a means of accessing and enjoying the park.
Trebly Park is managed and programmed by the Downtown District, which organizes various events such as live music, movie screenings, and art events. The park aims to be a vibrant community space, offering "three times as much" fun, relaxation, and interaction compared to other local parks.
